Week 2

This week, we detected motion using a PIR Motion Sensor.

As seen in the video, the Pi was able to detect my hand waving in front of the PIR motion detector.

This technology has been used in various ways, including efforts to save electricity.

A common example would be motion detecting lights in toilets. When the motion sensor detects some kind of motion in the toilet, i.e. the door opening or someone walking in, the lights turn on. If the motion sensor does not detect any movement for a set period time, the lights will turn off. This rules out the problem of the toilet lights being left on for an extended period of time even though no one is using them, just because someone forgot to turn the lights off after using them.
